Zander - Sander zander
'Lucioperca' is its Latin name, meaning pike perch. It certainly lives up to its name, with a perch-like body and razor-sharp teeth like the pike. It is found in the Bureälven catchment area, but also occurs sporadically along the coast.

Fishing method: Compared to the pike, the zander prefers smaller prey presented slowly and sometimes completely still. Bait sizes of 8 - 15 cm are recommended. Pike almost always attack from behind, so make sure that the hook at the back is flawless and razor sharp.
The most popular and effective method in large lakes is trolling with a wobbler. The advantage of this method is that you can easily cover large areas and thus find the fish more easily. Once you have caught a pikeperch in one place, it can often be worthwhile to continue fishing there.
If you know where the pikeperch usually hunt, baiting with baitfish is also effective.
When and where: Summer evenings are by far the best time to lure the pike. It shuns light but likes warm water. This also means that its range in Norrland is very limited. The lake should therefore be turbid, warm and with deep holes for the zander to thrive.
Fishing along deep edges is always exciting. At dusk, however, zander often chase their prey close to the surface and often all the way inland. So even though the lake is deep where you fish, it can be worthwhile to present the bait close to the surface and shallow in the late evening.
