As a support assistant, you provide individualized support to people with different types of disabilities to help them have a functional and meaningful everyday life. You get to guide the person in life!
In the majority of Skellefteå municipality's recruitments, you need to have basic knowledge and understanding of the Swedish language.
If you have a residence permit you can learn Swedish in SFI (Svenska för invandrare - Swedish for Immigrants)
Based on the individual's wishes and needs, you provide support and guidance in everyday matters. You can increase the person's abilities and independence through educational support and care.
You work independently with a lot of freedom and responsibility. Communication is the basis of everything you do. Other recurring tools are clarifying approaches, health-promoting approaches and low-effective treatment.
The job also includes planning and organizing the daily work. You work in close cooperation with colleagues, relatives and other resource persons. The individual's development and needs are documented so that you can follow up the support.
To work as a support assistant, you must have an education equivalent to the upper secondary school health and care program, or child and leisure program with a focus on people with special needs.
Before you have a completed education, you can work as a support worker.
Further education
If you work as a support assistant and want to develop your skills and take on more responsibility in the workplace, you can study to become a support pedagogue or a specialized assistant nurse.
As a support pedagogue, you are part of the team and participate in the daily work. With your in-depth and specific skills, you will have an increased responsibility and support the work of putting the individual's needs at the center and taking a holistic approach.
As a specialized assistant nurse, you are part of the work group and have a special responsibility in the daily work to ensure that you see the individual as a whole and focus on health factors.
