School-age educare

If you are a working or studying parent, your child can attend school-age educare before or after school until they turn 13 years old.

Staff at school-age educare have undergone basic teacher training specialising in working with this. Their task is to stimulate the development and learning of pupils, offer them meaningful leisure activities and promote all-round contact and socialising.

School-age educare is located close to primary schools. You can find all educare centres here:

Once the pupil has been allocated a place, an introduction to the school-age educare can be offered based on their individual needs and in consultation with staff at the centre. When transferring from preschool to school and school-age educare, the introductions will take place simultaneously. An introduction involves the guardian and pupil getting to know staff and the new environment. The introduction to the school-age educare is not free of charge.

Please note that...

During the summer months, preschools, school-age educare and other educational activities merge their operations. This may mean that there are no regular staff or regular activities. Activities may take place in places other than the pupil’s normal placement. As a general rule, no introductions are conducted during this period. Contact the municipality’s Customer Services if you need a place during this period.

In order to ensure that the school-age educare can contact guardians, up-to-date contact details are required. You will need a valid digital ID yo use this service. If you do not have valid e-ID, you can give your contact details directly to a member of staff at the school-age educare.

Changes to the schedule

The amended schedule should be submitted at least 14 days (but no later than 8 days) prior to the date on which the schedule change takes effect. The purpose of submitting the schedule on time so that the school-age educare has time to process the new schedule and make any staffing changes that may be necessary to ensure that the pupil can be cared for in the optimal manner based on their needs and the composition and size of the pupil group, so that a good environment can be offered. It is also important for the pupil to feel secure that their times are correct.

The schedule is based on the family’s needs:

  • If the guardian works or studies, the schedule shall be based on working/studying hours, including travel time.
  • If the guardian is on parental leave or is a jobseeker, the schedule shall be based on the times decided by the local head teacher. In Skellefteå Municipality, this is three days a week from the end of the school day until 15:30. This applies to pupils in preschool class up to and including Year 3. This excludes school holidays. If the times at school-age educare fall on skills development days, the guardian’s holiday, when the pupil is sick or on public holidays, the scheduled time cannot be carried over.
  • If the guardian is a short-term substitute, the same rules apply as for permanent employees/students and the schedule is based on working hours including travel time.
  • If it is not possible to submit a schedule eight days in advance, the schedule should be written down afterwards and submitted on a paper form.
  • If the pupil’s guardian is on sick leave, receiving sickness benefit or pregnancy benefit, the schedule will be based on their child’s previous scheduled attendance.
  • When the pupil is absent from the school-age educare for a full week, for example, during the summer holidays, Christmas and Easter or any other holidays, enter “guardian off all week”. For individual days off (i.e. days when the pupil is not in attendance or public holidays) leave the guardian field empty.

Sickness should be reported directly to the school-age educare

Leave is registered directly via the schedule e-service or form. Pupils are not permitted to attend the school-age educare when their guardian is on holiday or otherwise away from work/studies, for example, on days off, leave or when using flexi-time, etc.

Please note that the e-service is in Swedish.

The programme shall take advantage of the pupils’ desire to learn. It should be based on the national goals and give due consideration to the needs, experiences and thoughts of pupils and be adapted to pupils’ differing circumstances. Among other things, centres are tasked with supporting pupils’ social and general development, broadening and deepening their knowledge and experience and offering meaningful leisure activities.

Pupils also receive practical training in democracy, responsibility and exerting influence. Play, movement and creativity are important elements. Leisure-time centres are also tasked with collaborating with preschools, preschool classes and schools in the best interests of pupils from a holistic perspective.

When you accept a place at school-age educare, you will be charged a fee for the place 12 months a year.

Below you can see what it costs to have your child at a school-age educare or leisure time club. The order of children is based on the amount of time spent at preschool/ school-age educare, with Child 1 being the child with most time, Child 2 the next most time, and so on.

Leisure-time centre fees

Children in order

Fee

Child 1

2% of income, but a maximum of SEK 1125/month

Child 2

1% of income, but a maximum of SEK 563/month

Child 3

1% of income, but a maximum of SEK 563/month

Child 4

No fee

The same rate also applies to children of jobseekers or those on parental leave. No fee is charged to those in the income bracket 0–20,000/month before tax. The current income ceiling is SEK 56 250 per month.

How are fees calculated?

Fees are based on joint monthly household income. No fees are payable when household income is SEK 20,000 or lower. The youngest child (always Child 1) in the family determines the basic fee.

Guardians who cohabit with someone who is not the child’s guardian are charged based on joint taxable income. If the pupil has a place at a school-age educare, the fee is payable even if the child does not attend.

Split fees

Fees can be shared between guardians by notifying Customer Services. Fees are shared on condition that both guardians use the school-age educare place.

Fee exemption

Pupils deemed to be in need of special support, or pupil’s absent due to illness for 14 consecutive calendar days, can be granted an exemption from fees. Please contact Customer Services for further details. Decisions rest with the head teacher.
