Ice fishing

Ice fishing is a good method for fishing for pike, zander and burbot, but also large perch. Fun activity with friends or family, bring something warm to drink and eat and the hours go fast and suddenly it bites.

Common baits: treble hook with dead baitfish, whole or in pieces

Common species: pike, perch, zander, burbot

Equipment: ice fishing rod, some type of rod holder, bait, ice drill, ice bucket, stool, pliers or seaweed, mat or bag to protect the fish from the ice

Other tips: A coarse line, leader and treble hook will get you a long way, but it will be more fun with customized sets of short rods and reels. You often rig up several rods with a bait alarm and a stand. The ice drill should be at least 150 mm so that you can get the fish up through the hole.

The most common bait is dead fish, such as roach or pollack. When you've finished rigging your rods, just sit down, pour yourself a cup of coffee or hot chocolate and wait for the first bite.

Handle the big fish with care!

Do not hold the fish in a lip grip as the guts will sink down into the body. It is also a great strain to hang all the kilos in the lower lip.

We recommend that you use pliers and a suitable mat or bag so that the fish does not lie directly on the ice.
