In the first year, the Pre-DP offers a blend of courses from the Samhällsprogrammet and Naturvetenskapsprogrammet to prepare you for the more advanced studies in years 2 and 3. Student grades are mainly based on final exams, assessed by external examiners.
Kanalskolan is an authorized IB world school.
IB World Schools share a common philosophy – a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education – that we believe is important for our students.
*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (DP), or the Career-related Programme (CP).

How to apply to Pre DP
There are two groups that are eligible to apply to Pre DP.
Group 1: Students with 9 years compulsory school from the Swedish School System.
To apply, students will need to have completed year 9 of compulsory schooling with Swedish grades from elementary school. The rules of admission that apply here are:
You are eligible to apply for the IB-program if you have completed compulsory school in Sweden and meet the entry requirements for the estetiska-, samhällsvetenskapliga, or ekonomiprogrammet. If you are new in Sweden the above requirements still apply but without the requirement of a passing grade in Swedish or Swedish as a second language.
Group 2: Students that are planning to come to Sweden or has recently arrived in Sweden. Recently means within the last 2-3 years.
All the following must be fulfilled to be able to apply to Pre DP.
Recently arrived or are about to arrive in Sweden, recently means within the last 2-3 years.
The student has completed compulsory school equivalent to 9 years of Swedish compulsory school that should give the eligibility to enter a university preparational programme.
The student has a transcript, in English or Swedish, showing the grades and courses taken at the previous two years of school.
The student is at least 15 years old or will turn 15 during the fall term of the year the student begins in
The student passes an entrance test in English.
Applications to the DP1 year is handled by the school.
Yes, you can complete the IB programme and apply to universities in Sweden. However, be sure to check the specific entry requirements of the universities you're interested in, so you choose the right courses. If you’re unsure, there are study and career counsellors, as well as an IB coordinator, available to assist you.
Yes, studying abroad after the IB programme is often easier, as the programme is recognised globally, making it simpler for universities to evaluate.
You will study six different subjects, each scored between 1 and 7 points. You’ll also complete a course called Theory of Knowledge and an Extended Essay, which together can add an extra 1 to 3 points. This results in a maximum of 45 points to use when applying to universities. Note that there is also a course called Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS), which you must complete to receive the diploma.
Yes, in some cases, earning merit points through the IB programme can even be a bit easier than in national programmes. For more information, see "Meritpoäng" on antagning.se, or contact the school’s IB coordinator.
There’s a simple scale you can view here: "Räkna ut ditt meritvärde" on antagning.se.
In Sweden, the IB programme is a three-year course, with a preparatory Pre-Diploma Programme (PDP) in the first year. If you wish to switch programmes during the first year, it’s relatively straightforward, as you follow the Swedish curriculum. Once the Diploma Programme begins in years 2 and 3, switching becomes more challenging, and you would likely need to restart in year 2
